Jim Anderson will lead a field trip to Anza Borrego to discuss the geologic history and formations of the area. The field trip is open to members of FGMS and a liability waiver must be completed prior to the trip. Itinerary and more detailed information are below.

Rendezvous 10 AM May 6, at Demler Brothers Fresh Eggs, Pine Hill Egg Ranch, 25818 CA Highway 78, Ramona, CA. It is a wide parking lot on the right side of the road about 7.8 miles from the intersection of Highway 78 and Highway 67 in Ramona. If you see the Firehouse on the left side of the road, you have gone too far.
STOP 1 Ballena Gravels – Clue to the History of the Salton Sea
STOP 2 Cuyamaca Laguna Mountains Shear Zone
Stop 3 Overlook of Salton Trough from Highway 67, The tectonic History of the Salton Trough
STOP 4 Scissors Crossing
STOP 5 Box Canyon
STOP 6 Carrizo Badlands Overlook
STOP 7 Alverson Volcanics and Ordovician Dolomite
STOP 8 Painted Gorge
Participants can camp at Painted Gorge (primitive, no facilities, bring all you need) or take ½ hour ride to El Centro motels and restaurants. Painted Gorge is BLM land, those wanting to camp in a RV or trailer may want to stay close to the entrance to Painted Gorge or consider one of the campgrounds near Borrego Springs.

STOP 1 Explore Fish Creek/Split Mountain, dirt road but safe for all vehicles

STOP 3 (time permitting) Coyote Creek
STOP 4 (time permitting) Hike to Paleozoic Sediments in Hellhole Canyon
